YOUR layer between chaos and capital
You've built something real. Now you need to know which move to make next — and have the evidence to back it.
Scratchwork tests, proves, and structures what works so you can scale with confidence.
The Gap For Small Business Owners
Most growing businesses ATTEMPT To scale before they've validated what actually works.
You hire. You spend. You launch. And when it doesn't move the needle, you don't know why.
Scratchwork exists to close that gap — between the instinct that something works and the evidence that proves it.
Our Solution
YOUR COMPANY’S GROWTH PARTNER
Scratchwork is a growth partner for underestimated builders—owner-operators doing $1M–$5M who have proven demand and are ready to scale. We operate at the layer between chaos and capital: validating what works, structuring what’s proven, and connecting the right businesses to the funding they’ve earned.
Beyond strategy, we can serve as your execution partner from launch through close—managing timelines, coordinating stakeholders, maintaining investor momentum, and optimizing performance so your raise runs professionally, efficiently, and in line with key milestones and regulatory requirements.

About Me
FOUNDER’S STORY
Peace, I’m Steve Royster.
I help owner-operators validate, build, and fund new ventures. .
I've spent 15 years at the intersection of venture capital, technology, and community development — helping founders build, funders deploy, and businesses grow.
I started Scratchwork because the path from good to great shouldn't require an insider's network, misaligned missions, or a consulting firm's overhead. It requires the right structure, tested in the real market, with capital aligned to the outcome.
Who Is This For?
The BUILDER
You've done the hard part — customers, revenue, employees, and responsibility. What you need now is structure.
Own a business creating $1M to $5M in annual revenue
*
A growth idea you haven't been able to test properly
*
Ready to make a real decision — not just talk about one
*
2–3 hours per week to invest in the work
*
Why This Matters
Economic ownership is how communities build lasting power. Most of the businesses that drive it are being left behind.
Underestimated builders — the ones doing $1M to $5M, running payroll, serving their communities, creating jobs — are consistently overlooked by traditional capital and consulting infrastructure. The advice they get is too generic. The capital they need requires paperwork they've never been shown how to prepare.
Scratchwork exists to close that gap. When a business in your neighborhood scales, it doesn't just create wealth for one owner. It creates jobs, anchors a block, and expands what's possible for the people around it.
